Pressed or CD-R's - the choice is yours.
When it comes to the final product, the choice of whether to have the CD's pressed or use CD-R's is yours:
The choice of pressed discs or 'burnt' discs may depend on your budget and projected sales; pressed CD's have a lower unit cost if a larger quantity is required and may have high quality printed labels on the silver finished, familiar looking disc. CD-R's (which are individually made or burnt by a laser) look a little different, usually they have a bluish appearance on the recorded side, may be produced in smaller quantities and normally have inkjet manually printed labels on a white base. The CD-R's are able to contain the same high quality signals as the pressed discs but occasionally, (usually older or well worn portable CD players) a player will skip or not play a track on the CD-R; I would add that this is a rare occurrence now as long as good equipment is being used to play the CD. Less problems seem to show up on these old players with pressed discs; despite much research into this matter by many people, no firm conclusions seemed to have been formed as to the reasons behind the failures. With good quality CD playing equipment, the risk of failure from CD-R's is small.
Pressed discs: these require a 'glass master' as part of the production process and this imposes a costing on the job regardless of the number of CD's to be produced. If 500 discs or more are required, then pressed discs are the more economic means. There is a need to provide art work for the labelling and also for any booklet and J-card printing that may be required.
CD-R's do not require the production of a 'glass master' and smaller quantities may be produced, simple booklets may be produced by us 'in-house' and we can print the labels straight onto the CD's. At this stage, we don't provide J-card printing but there is nothing to stop you providing your own print materials if you wish. You will find our price list for CD production provides further enlightenment.
